  • These papers were assembled by Miguel Theobald Langton, one of the executors of the Will of his father, Miguel Langton in the course of settling the Will. They include papers relating to the genealogy of the family, earlier family Wills, and papers relating to the liquidation of the assets (business and personal) of Miguel Langton and their subsequent division between his heirs. The documents are written in Spanish, and reflect the Spanish administrative and legal systems and accounting practices of the time. Multiple copies appear to have been made of some items - documents seem to have created and signed by the originators and other interested parties, and subsequently copied out, often a number of times. In compiling this catalogue, the papers have been divided into three sections: papers relating to the genealogy of the family; family Wills; and legal and accounting papers. Stray items of much later date found loose within the pages of some documents have been left where they were found - for example, notes made by Miguel T Langton about 1814, found in a genealogy drawn up in 1781, have been left with the earlier document.
