Description
Personal papers and photographs chiefly relating to Kenneth William Douglas Jones and his son Richard Vercoe Jones. Ken Jones was born in 1919 and educated at Llandovery County School. He worked successively for Lloyd's Bank, (broken by war service in the Air Transport Auxiliary), ran a hotel in Weston super Mare, for Bristol Industries Ltd and for Somerset County Council (to 1968). In 1972 he was landlord of the Golden Hind, Station Road, Taunton. He died in Taunton in 1993. Richard Jones was born in 1949, and educated at Williton Secondary School. He worked on P and O passenger ships before joining the army, serving in the 1st Battalion Light Infantry. On 18th August 1972 he was killed by a sniper's bullet while on active service in Northern Ireland. He was buried at Staplegrove.
