Description
  • Of the first two churches built under the influence of the Oxford Movement, one was St John's, Bridgwater, built by the Rev. John Moore Capes at a cost of £10,000 in 1846. Frustrated by the Church of England, he became a convert to the Roman Catholic faith. St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church was built in 1882 and designed by the Rev. A J C Scoles, who became the resident priest.
