  • A collection of letters sent to various members of the McLean family, including letters sent from Bath by Maria Brown Mill to Margaret Mclean in the West Indies. Margaret McLean and her husband travelled to the West Indies in 18??, on inheriting plantations there. Their son, George Gavin, was left in England, in the care of Margaret's old schoolfriend, Maria Brown Mill, who lived in Bath with her elderly husband, Baron Brown Mill. Baron Brown Mill died in Bath in 1842, and Maria married Michael Hobart Seymour in 1844. The collection also includes a book 'The Arrival of the Posthorse' , written by a descendant, which includes transcriptions of some of the letters. System of Arrangement: as many of the letters are undated, they have been arranged in three series: dated letters from Maria; undated letters from Maria; letters between other family members. Related Records: a small number of letters have been deposited at the Bath Preservation Trust, along with a small medicine cabinet.
